A one-hour Webinar
23rd May 2024
Presented by: Professor Dan Remenyi
From a positive perspective for the knowledge worker GenAI, if used with caution, is a powerful tool which will deliver many performance improvement benefits. In addition, it can also be a source of considerable entertainment and educational value. But, at the same time, there are other issues to be considered.
In the past 16 months the extraordinary level of public interest in AI created at the time of the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT has developed and has begun to focus on a number of important key issues or concerns about the implications of the technology in society. These issues are no longer simply about the capabilities of the technology but rather about how it impacts on people and institutions. Some of the most important of these concerns are,
- The race for “multi-modalism” now being referred to as WINS.
- The value of the GenAI market.
- $7 trillion for chips to keep the supply chain going.
- Plagiarism and other legal cases
- The tsunami of fakery and other threats to jobs etc
- AGI as the Holy Grail – will real intelligence ever be delivered.
- The existential threat – do we need AI to make the world worse?
All of the above have an impact on society in general and an understanding of them is important in order to make any decision about how AI can play a role in the future. This presentation, GenAI – 7 Key Issues to be aware of, reviews current thinking on these issues which also includes the Safety of GenAI (or AI-Chatbots as they used to be referred to). Positive aspects of this technology as well as aspects related to the mistakes which the technology commonly makes and the potential of the technology to fall into the hands of malfeasants or malicious actors are addressed. In addition, a number of the misunderstandings and exaggerations frequently expressed will be exposed.
The webinar will be held on Thursday 23 May 2024 from 1400-1500 (GMT+1) via Zoom.
