University Information

The University of Reading is a public research university in Reading, Berkshire, UK. The University was established in 1892 as University College, Reading and received its Royal Charter in 1926. It is based on several campuses in, and around, the town of Reading. The University has a long tradition of research, education and training at a local, national and international level. It offers traditional degrees alongside less usual and other vocationally relevant ones.

Local Information

Reading, the county town of Berkshire, is located on the River Kennet near its confluence with the River Thames, Set amidst the beautiful countryside of the Thames Valley this important university town owes its rapid expansion during the 19th-century to the arrival of the railways. Today it is a thriving commercial and retail centre with excellent leisure and entertainment facilities, and despite modern developments it retains some notable architecture and historic buildings. Its proximity to London and good transport links also make it an attractive base for commuters working in the capital.

Getting to ICGR

Most Hotels are in the Town  and the 21 and 21a buses run from Reading  train station in the town centre to the Whiteknights campus at regular intervals, 24 hours a day.

Reading is just 60km from London from which there is good rail links and is easily accessible by public transport from around the UK. By Air all the major London airports are within easy reach of Reading and well served by public transport.

The two main international airports are London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Heathrow is a 30 minute bus ride from Reading and Gatwick is 1 hour 20 minutes on the train.

Conference Accommodation

Suggested local hotels can be seen in the table below. The designated Conference Hotel for ICGR will be Hotel Ibis This is usually where pre-conference drinks are held and where any transportation required for the conference dinner will run from.
