4th International Conference on Tourism Research 2021
20 - 21 May 2021, Vila do Conde, Portugal
ACPI are planning to return to physical events at the host universities in 2021. We know however that the events of this year have had longer lasting impacts on participants’ ability and willing to travel for conferences. We are therefore planning for conferences moving forward to be “hybrid” in essence. Meaning that they will be physical events with virtual elements built into them to create an experience for both those who can attend in person and those able to attend online. Welcome to ICTR 2021
Now in its fourth year the International Conference on Tourism Research, building upon successful events in Porto, Portugal, Jyväskylä, Finland and virtually supported in Valencia, Spain. The global approach to tourism has changed considerably over the past decades – in part due to low-cost travel and also due to an increased concern about the sustainability of tourism from both cultural and environmental perspectives. Despite some advances being made in the area, topics related to tourism research remain pertinent and are gaining momentum in a changing society. It is thus important to continue to develop research on specific tourism topics, in order to acquire a clearer understanding and to obtain important insights.
This conference is establishing itself at the cutting edge of tourism research and brings together a diverse range of thinkers on the topic, we welcome everyone researching in this area to present their work to the scientific community.
Personal Message from the Conference Chairs
The world is going through a particularly difficult period that affects society, as well as all professional and business areas. The tourism sector, in all its aspects, is one of the areas that has been most affected by this humanitarian crisis. In this context, the discussion of the challenges that tourism faces are even more urgent. The 4th International Conference of Tourism Research (ICTR 2021) is the ideal time to analyse the new challenges to the tourism sector, namely issues related with the usage of new technologies in the sector, innovation, sustainability, culture, accommodation, gastronomy, transport, restaurants, etc. The School of Hospitality and Tourism (ESHT), of Polytechnic Institute of Porto, is very pleased to invite all those interested in these areas to participate in the conference and in this fundamental debate for the development of tourism and society.
