A personal message from the Conference Chair

On behalf of the organizing team, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. CPUT is the largest University in the Western Cape Province of South Africa by student enrolment. The diversity of peoples in the Western Cape is accompanied by a wide variety of social contexts and this leads to varying needs of students entering Higher Education. As a result, e-Learning offers a powerful means of addressing these diverse needs, providing access to Higher Education; student engagement; epistemological access; flexible learning and curriculum etc.

We appreciate that the challenges are not unique to students in the Western Cape or even in South Africa, and due to the global nature of this conference,  participants from around the world will be able to share and gain insights into ways of addressing similar challenges in their environments and contexts. This year the core theme of the conference is Blended learning and learning analytics, and we especially look forward to learning from each other how learning analytics and blended learning are applied in different environments.

We are assured some excellent keynote presentations from Dr Johannes Cronjé, Dean of Informatics and Design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology; Prof Susan Geertshuis,  Director of Learning and Teaching and Professor of Lifelong Learning at the University of Auckland Business School, New Zealand; Dr Paul Prinsloo, Research Professor in Open and Distance Learning in the College of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of South Africa (UNISA); Dr Cheryl Hodgkinson-Williams, from the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching at the University of Cape Town and Professor Wallace Chigona from the University of Cape Town.

We are waiting to welcome you to South Africa, to Cape Town, and to CPUT!
