The following are outlines for the Keynote Speeches which will take place at ICAIR 2025

European Regulation of AI systems: Data circulation, Liability and Protection of Fundamental Rights

Led By: Dr Valentina Di Gregorio

The speech focuses on our rapidly evolving digital world finding to outline the hard balance between, on the one hand, the circulation of data, which is the lifeblood of AI and the market development and, on the other hand,  the protection of fundamental rights which are the goals of the European Union’s comprehensive regulatory framework, a pioneering effort to harness the transformative power of AI while ensuring it aligns with our core values.

Can we make Artificial Intelligence sustainable?

Led By: Lorenzo Rosasco

Recent advances in machine learning have led to remarkable successes, but at a rapidly increasing computational and environmental cost. In this talk, I will discuss how we might rethink AI to make it more efficient, accessible, and sustainable. Just as we have learned to compress data, we now need to learn how to compress algorithms themselves—making them lighter, faster, and more interpretable. I will present recent developments in theory and algorithms that aim to reduce the need for massive data and computation, and explore how these ideas connect to the broader goal of understanding intelligence as a scientific endeavor.
