In Search of the “Equaman”: When, Where, and Why Men and Boys Support (or Resist) Gender Equality.
Drawing on data from two international research projects—Towards Gender Harmony, a global consortium of over 160 scholars from 62 countries examining contemporary understandings of masculinity and femininity, and EQUAMAN, which investigates the links between masculine norms, gender equality, and the well-being of adolescent and adult men in Poland and Norway—I will present insights from quantitative multinational online surveys (student samples), longitudinal analyses, latent profile analyses, and short educational interventions conducted with adolescents. Together, these findings highlight key factors shaping adolescent boys’ and men’s attitudes toward gender equality.
