There is now a new tech offering, often aimed at more vulnerable individuals. It offers what it calls a kind of immortality through the use of AI. It is said to be attractive to the elderly, seriously ill, or to those who have recently suffered a bereavement among family or friends.

Some developers are claiming that a type of human consciousness can be captured by AI and be used to create an afterlife of sorts. The words sometimes used to describe this service include suggestions that the essence of a person can be extracted from historical data—such as phone messages, emails, personal photographs, unique stories and memories, and other written material—and inserted into a computer to develop what is said to be the equivalent of human consciousness. And the human consciousness in this form in the computer will not be subject to human death. This type of system is also being referred to as “digital persona replication” which effectively is a postmortem chatbot, and it appears that there are people who believe this can in some way substitute or at least represent a living person.

In addition to this there is the issue of a Digital Legacy. Most people now have a large Digital Footprint on the Internet and Web. In fact, there is a mass of data about many people and their affairs on the web collected over time through the use of their phones, personal laptop computers and social media etc. What happens to this digital world when an individual passes away? The answer to this is complex and can produce numerous challenges if not handled properly. Their text messages, social media profiles, emails, photos, and online accounts form a complex Digital Footprint, often leaving families with a confusing and stressful puzzle to manage and sort out.

This webinar presents suggestions on how to handle these issues. It provides a straightforward guide to navigating the challenges of individuals’, so-called, “digital afterlife” including the possibility of creating a postmortem chatbot which can be used to simulate interaction with the diseased. It addresses actionable steps to manage digital assets, organize any required online presence, and secure a digital legacy, and thus prevent problems for the family.
