Becoming a Successfully Published Academic Researcher
A series of 4 one-hour webinars
By
Professor Dan Remenyi
An academic career can be attractive, but at the same time, it can be quite daunting. The days when being an academic was a sinecure are long gone. Tenure is almost entirely over, and university administrators cast eagle eyes to inspect the performance of their staff. High on the list of performance metrics is the issue of being published.
Today, being published in a quality academic journal has become the sine qua non of an academic career. Some commentators have described the modern faculty position as being on a high-speed treadmill. There is, in fact, a relentless demand placed on academics for a flow of quality research papers published in appropriate journals. To cope with this reality, academics have to take a positive, well-informed, highly skilled, and energetic approach to having their research published. In addition, they need to have a well-honed strategy for producing scholarly work and having it published in high-quality journals.
This series of webinars is aimed at early-career academics who need to establish themselves as successfully published faculty members. It addresses four main sets of issues:
1. Understanding the academic research eco-culture
2. Choosing the right research for you
3. Doing the research is not enough
4. Getting your research published
These one-hour webinars will be available through Zoom and will be held at 13:00 SAST (or UTC+2) on the following dates:
