Security Awareness and Education for Mobile Application Developers
Led by: Carlos Serrão, Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa
Currently, millions of users rely on their smartphones to communicate, interact with other users or services and handle extremely sensitive information. This mobile ecosystem is composed by millions of mobile applications, developed either by companies or individual developers, distributed to end-users through some app stores.
The major trust points on this scenario seems to be the app stores. App stores are responsible for ensuring to the end-users that the applications they install on their devices are secure. However, this might not be the case. Most of the applications that run on the end-user device contain security vulnerabilities that might be potentiality exploited by an attacker and compromise the user device.
This workshop intends to provide an overview about this context and present the major security risks associated with mobile applications development for the Android environment. It also intends to present developers security awareness to improve the security of developer mobile applications.
- · Understand the security challenges of the mobile applications ecosystem
- · Learn about the major security risks in mobile applications development (OWASP Mobile Top 10)
- · Discover tools that might be helpful for the identification of Android applications vulnerabilities
- · Learn about the App Sentinel project that tackled applications vulnerabilities and developers feedback
