The University of Santiago de Compostela has been the cornerstone of the city's education for more than 500 years. Its foundation goes back to 1495. Since then, the University – which originally consisted of the chairs of Art and Theology has extended its educational field to the more than 60 degrees that are currently taught at 32 schools and institutions located in 3 campuses at the cities of Santiago de Compostela and Lugo.
The USC's facilities –which also include research institutes, university halls, sports courts, cultural venues and libraries, among other buildings- now occupy an area of 1,300,000 square metres and houses 33,000 students, more than 2,000 lecturers and researchers, and 1,000 employees.
The University is also active as a cultural programmer, organising around a hundred annual events featuring exhibitions, theatre, dance and cinema.
Santiago de Compostela is located in the region of Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. Declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO thanks to its monumental beauty, the city is the final destination of a thousand-year-old pilgrim route: the Way of St. James, which since the 9th century has transformed this finis terrae into a meeting point of Western culture.
Visitors will find treasures exhibited in sixteen museums as well as the surprising richness of contemporary architecture, surrounded by Galicia’s largest area of parks and gardens.
This setting is alive with a huge cultural offer: music, cinema, theatre and traditional festivals.
Santiago takes care of its visitors by means of a network of hotels with more than 15,000 beds –apart from 5,000 seats available in specialised infrastructures designed for meetings and congresses- and a gastronomic range capable of satisfying those with a discerning palate and all kinds of budgets. No wonder that for more than a thousand years we have been a land of universal reception, a meeting place born for the daily exercising of hospitality.
Getting to ECDG
Aeropuerto Internacional de Santiago de Compostela is 16 km to the centre of Santiago de Compostela (approximately 12 km to conference venue)
We are now working with a specialist agency to offer a range of hotels for all ACPIL conferences, with prices lower than many online booking engines. You will find a number of hotels at various prices, but the designated Conference Hotel for ECDG is NH Hesperia Santiago Peregrino. This is usually where pre-conference drinks are held and where any transportation required for the conference dinner will run from.
