| University information | The University of Malta was first established in 1592 as a Jesuit College housed in a magnificent baroque building in Valletta, which is the conference venue for ECRM 2009. Today, the University, having moved to a modern and more spacious campus outside the capital city, has close to 10,000 students, of whom ten per cent are international students from around 80 countries You can find more information on the University website. |
| Conference dinner venue | The conference dinner was held at the Lupenara Restaurant. Participants were taken by Luzzu boat to Vittoriosa for the dinner. |
| General information | Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is a UNESCO world heritage site with 320 monuments making it one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world. It is a fortified city that was built in the 16th Century by the Knights of the Order of St John. It was a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen and was built on a grid plan for defence purposes. The capital city of Malta saw a great deal of destruction to many of its ancient buildings during the Second World War. One of the last buildings to still lie in ruins is the old Malta Opera House. |
