Dr Scott Erickson, School of Business at Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, USA Dr Anthony Wensley, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, Canada | Welcome to ECKM 2012 at the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena! The conference will be located in the southeastern region of Spain in the Region of Murcia. Despite the intense mining, tourist and industrial exploitation that the area has suffered for centuries, the territory around Cartagena city hosts an extraordinary natural wealth and diversity, with a large number of botanical endemic species. Cartagena also holds the distinction of being the Spanish town with the most beaches (10) certified “Q for Quality” by the ICTE (Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española). The world economy in which we are living poses challenges that lead to a realization that 'more of the same' will be difficult to sustain. This provides an illustration that, in order to create new or modified knowledge practices, strengthen customer relationships and thus positively influence customer satisfaction, organizations must be flexible in configuring (combining) knowledge and knowledge structures in a way that is appropriate for delivering value to the customer. It must simultaneously develop effective strategies for updating the knowledge of its staff members necessary for underpinning the creation and delivery of appropriate knowledge services. Thus, unlearning (forgetting) becomes a critical means for organizational success. The ECKM community of scholars has already initiated dialogue that links its particular strengths to innovation issues. This conference aims to further that dialogue by attracting leading edge work that leverages the ECKM community's in-depth understanding of learning and unlearning to better understand knowledge management. Our aim is to stimulate breakthrough research streams linking learning, unlearning and knowledge management. We are looking forward to seeing you at Cartagena and expect lively discussions and new insights! | | | click icon to visit group | | type tag: #ECIW | | Juan Gabriel Cegarra Programme-Chair | | | | | Your contacts for this conference are: | Important dates: | | A prize will be awarded for the best Poster and the best PhD paper | | Abstract submission deadline: | 16 February 2012 | Extended until 3 March 2012 | | Notification of abstract acceptance: | 23 February 2012 | Completed | | Full paper due for review: | 5 April 2012 | Completed | | Notification of paper acceptance: | 14 June 2012 | | | Earlybird registration closes: | 28 June 2012 | | | Final paper due (with any changes): | 12 July 2012 | | | Final Author registration date: | 2 August 2012 | | Registration news Earlybird discounts are available until 28 June 2012.
