Track Chair: Dr. Peter Heisig, Leeds University Business School, UK

The result of a worldwide Delphi-study conducted in 2002 concluded that the most urgent and most promising task in Knowledge Management research and practice was “the integration of knowledge management activities into business processes” (Scholl/Heisig 2003; Scholl et al. 2004).

This mini track will address the current state of research and practice about the activities to understand the relationship between core business processes and knowledge management activities. Submissions should feature how knowledge management activities have been integrated into core business processes such like "product development", "sales & marketing", "manufacturing" and "customer-service" and how these KM tasks have been aligned with the daily working tasks in these core processes.

Co-authored papers with industry would be especially welcomed to this track. Research papers which review the current state in "process-oriented KM" and suggest further directions of research and research questions would be welcomed as well. Papers focusing on the change management activities related to process-oriented KM are also welcomed.

The following topics should be addressed by authors from industry and researchers in KM:

§         Case studies from manufacturing and service industry on how Knowledge management activities are integrated

§         What are the challenges to implement KM tasks and activities into daily working tasks of engineers, marketers, production managers and workers and customer service personnel?

§         Which change management activities are required to achieve a sustainable alignment between KM tasks and activities and the daily working tasks?

§         What are future research directions and research questions “process-oriented Knowledge Management” should pursue?

Wikis, Weblogs, Social Networking Services, and other types of social media have been very successful on the Web and enterprises have slowly begun to acknowledge the value of Web 2.0 principles and technologies. The corporate adoption of the Web 2.0 is supposed to lead to manifold business advantages for various application domains and for knowledge management in general.

However, it is not the tools which are new, but the paradigms and principles which are behind Web 2.0: One key principle of Web 2.0 is the shift of users from consumers to producers. A similar paradigm shift may emerge with the Enteprise 2.0.

In the Enterprise 2.0 mini track, we want to continue the discussion on Web 2.0 based knowledge management. We focus on both application-driven researchers and decision makers from practice. The call for papers welcomes representatives from academia and industry to discuss Enterprise 2.0 related  issues together.

The following topics should be addressed by authors from industry and researchers in KM:

§         Case studies on Enterprise 2.0

§         Measuring success and value of Enterprise 2.0

§         Success factors and performance indicators of Enterprise 2.0

§         Procedures and practices for effective knowledge management with social software

§         Web 2.0 applications and the benefits for individual and collaborative knowledge work

§         Cultural, social and technical aspects of Web 2.0

Mini Track on Making Form and Function Out of Fog: How do Organisations successfully deploy knowledge management initiatives

Track Chair: Dr Paulette DeGard, ProCarta, USA

This track is focused on identifying organizations that have successfully deployed Knowledge Management initiatives. The question that often emerges for KM practitioners is who owns KM and the deployment of KM initiatives? Without a champion, KM doesn’t get representation. Without the groundswell of the workforce, KM doesn’t get institutionalized. This track is looking for success stories where KM initiatives have been deployed and are functioning to enhance business productivity and success. The deployments could be via Communities of Practice, formal systems, informal systems, policy changes, social networking, or any other method that your organization has identified. Practitioners are encouraged to submit abstracts to this mini-track.

Possible current topics include, but are not limited to:

§         KM initiative deployment strategies

§         Institutionalizing KM initiatives

§         Methods used for KM initiatives deployment

§         Business drivers for KM initiatives

§         Metrics for successfully deployed KM initiatives

§         Governance shifts to facilitate KM initiative deployments

Mini Track on Managing Knowledge in a Multigenerational Workforce

Track Chair: Selvi Kannan, Victoria University, Australia

The current changing workforce challenges organisations globally with the older workers retiring steadily and fast, and organisations finding it difficult to replace or recruit talents, leads a timely scholarly discussion in the area of managing knowledge in a multigenerational workforce.  Knowledge deemed as a strategic asset is fundamental and vital to an organisation to maintain its competitive edge.  It is thus imperative for organisational competence that knowledge is recognized as the vein and valuable resource to be captured and transferred for sharing, learning and dynamic reuse between generations in the workforce for continued optimal performance.

This stream encourages papers addressing knowledge and knowledge management that harbours knowledge and skills challenges and issues in a multigenerational workforce ( ageing workforce, young inexperienced talents) in our global economy.

Papers can address the theme in any one of the following key areas:

§         Ageing Workforce and Challenges

§         Experience and Expertise Transfer

§         Reconceptualising the knowledge economy

§         Wisdom in the multigenerational workforce

§         Knowledge at Work - Procedures, Processes, Routines captured for learning between generations

§         Sustainable knowledge development

Mini Track on Global Knowledge Management

Track Chair: Jan Pawlowski, University of Jyväskylä, Finland

Jan M. Pawlowski

Knowledge management is no longer limited to one organization or one country. With an increased number of cooperations within and across organizations, knowledge management has become a global issue. However, many approaches and concepts are still limited to one cultural context. The idea of this mini track is to discuss current developments and experiences of cross-border, cross-cultural knowledge management to derive new solutions for this research area.

Different types of contributions can be submitted, contributions towards theory-building in the domain as well as reports from practice and research in progress.

The following topics should be addressed by authors from industry and researchers in KM:

§         Cultural aspects on knowledge management

§         Knowledge sharing in cross-border, cross-cultural organizations

§         Case studies, good practices and experiences in global knowledge management

§         Tools and services to enhance global knowledge acquisition, sharing and delivery

§         Knowledge management in global, knowledge-intensive organizations (e.g. software development, educational organizations)

§         Culture models for knowledge management
