University information

The University is located in the Minho region of Northern Portugal, a region with an extremely strong tradition of vibrant enterprise, essentially of small and medium-sized businesses. UMinho has two campi located 20 km apart: one in Braga and the other in Guimarães. There is a student population of 16.000, out of which 1.900 are postgraduate students. The University has 1.200 teaching staff, of whom 850 hold a PhD, and 600 administrative and technical staff. University website

 

The conference location is in Lisbon at the Academia Militar. This institution provides higher education that develops military public university teaching, research and support to the community, with the purpose of forming Officers for permanent posts in the Portuguese Army and National Guard. General information

Lisbon is the westernmost capital in mainland Europe and has a population of 2.8 million in the Greater Metropolitan Area. The city has a rich cultural heritage that dates back to Roman times. As a thriving sea port, Lisbon has a proud maritime tradition as evidenced by the inspiring memorial to Henry the Navigator. The city is easily accessible by land, sea and air.

Lisbon’s International Airport

The airport is located about 5.5 Km from the Academia Militar. The Google Map shows the rout which is about a 10 minute drive depending on traffic conditions.


Train
You can travel to Portugal by train using a EuRail pass. There is a national rail carrier in Portugal. For further information on trains please visit http://www.cp.pt.


From the UK it is possible to take your car with a ferry to France or Spain and then drive to Lisbon. Brittany Ferries operate services between, Roscoff/Cherbourg (France)and Plymouth as well as Santander (Spain) and Plymouth.
