Sancho II, establishing the Franciscan presence in the city. King Ferdinand 1 and his mother were both entombed there. In 1834 the monks left and the building was taken over by the 4th Regiment of Cavalry. In 1917 the building was declared a National Monument, but it fell into disrepair and the various royal and aristocratic tombs were relocated. In 2009, the Municipality of Santarém restored the building and opened it to the public. The City Hall President has kindly offered the Convent as the conference dinner. A classic music concert and "Fado" (declared on November 2011, intangible heritage of humanity) will be performed. |
