University information

ESADE (http://www.esade.edu/web/eng/) is an independent nonprofit university institution, founded in 1958 in Barcelona when a group of entrepreneurs and Jesuit Society members joined forces, Since 1995, it has formed part of the Ramon Llull University.

ESADE's academic activity takes place on its Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires campuses and the three main areas it focuses on are education, research and social dialogue.

ESADE’s Institute of Public Governance and Management (IGDP) (http://www.esade.edu/research-webs/eng/igdp) consists of a group of experts in government and public sector organisations.

Created in 1993, the IGDP has served to consolidate the experience already accumulated by ESADE since the 1980s when it began its initial endeavours in the public management field. Since then, more than 2,000 public leaders and managers have participated in the numerous activities organised, and the extensive research, books, conferences, scientific articles, case studies and other material published attest to IGDP members’ academic activity.

Within ESADE, IGDP’s mission aims at contributing to improve governance and to develop responsible leadership in the public sector. IGDP’s future vision is to become an internationally renowned academic reference in the public governance and management field. For this it has enacted the following lines of action: Provide quality educational programmes for public leaders, build knowledge which is relevant for public leadership and public-private collaboration initiatives, and promote social debate on the issues of public governance and management.

ESADE’s Campus in Sant Cugat was conceived as an environment conducive to study and work. Here you will find more than 20,000 m2 of modern classrooms, study rooms, offices, IT rooms and a library. All of these facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment, and are located in a natural environment that is just a stone’s throw from downtown Barcelona.

The ESADE community - faculty, personnel, students, collaborating businesses and organisations - will work together to make the Sant Cugat Campus a symbol of professional excellence and academic quality.

The dinner venue for ECEG 2012 is the restaurant Montjuïc El Xaletyet located on the emblematic mountain of Montjuïcin overlooking Barcelona. General information

Barcelona is the capital and the most populous city of Catalonia, one of the 17^th Spanish Autonomous Communities, and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of 1,621,537 within its administrative limits on a land area of 101.4 km². The urban area of Barcelona extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of over 4,200,000 on an area of 803 km², being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Ruhr area, Madrid and Milan. Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge.

Barcelona is today one of the world's leading tourist, economic and cultural centres, and its influences on commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. Indeed, it is a major economic centre and a growing financial centre. Barcelona is the 12th-most-visited city in the world and 4th most visited in Europe after Paris, London, and Rome. It is in addition the most popular tourist destination in Spain (receiving over 5 million tourists every year).

Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona became the capital of the Counts of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, it became one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon. Besieged several times during its history, Barcelona is today an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination and has a rich cultural heritage. Particularly renowned are architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner that have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is well known in recent times for the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Getting into ESADE

Barcelona is served by two airports.

§         Barcelona International Airport in El Prat de Llobregat, 18km south-west of Barcelona city center. Its code is 'BCN'.

§         Girona Airport is located approximately 100 km north-east of Barcelona. Its code is ‘GRO’

RENFE Sant Cugat Station – ESADE: 25 minutes walk. Possibility to take bus L2. The bus station is 500m from the Campus and the journey takes 25 minutes. Frequency: Every 30 minutes

By Bus

A4 Line: The bus stop is located 5 minutes from Esade Campus. It links Terrassa, Rubí, Sant Cugat del Vallés, Cerdanyola del Vallés and Barcelona. Frequency: Every 30 minutes.

A6 Line: The bus stop is located 10 minutes from Esade Campus. It links Barcelona and Sant Cugat through Arrabassada. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes.

N61 Line: The bus stop is located on the Sant Cugat railway station.

From Sant Cugat: The bus starts at 12:57 and ends at 3:57. Frequency: Every hour. It takes the same route than the rail.

From Plaza Cataluña (Barcelona): The bus starts at 1:30 and ends at 4:30. Frequency: Every hour. It takes the same route than the rail.

N62 Line: The bus stop is located on the Sant Cugat railway station.

From Sant Cugat: The bus starts at 12:03 and ends at 3:03. Frequency: Every hour.

From Plaza Cataluña (Barcelona): The bus starts at 1:00 and ends at 4:00. Frequency: Every hour.

By Car (22km)

The ESADE Campus is located in Sant Cugat del Vallés, close to the AP-7 motorway. The Campus can be reached from Barcelona following the:

E-15/AP-7 (North of Barcelona). Exit 22. Follow Sant Cugat sign

E-90/AP-2 (South Barcelona). Exit 24. Follow Sant Cugat sign

Vallvidrera Tunnels. Exit 10– Sant Cugat – Valldoreix

Getting to the ESADE Campus Sant Cugat from the Girona Airport (Ryanair)

Girona Airport is 103km (64.2 miles) North East of Barcelona or about 1hr 15 min. bus ride from Barcelona centre.

The Barcelona bus is probably the most convenient method of transfer between Girona Airport and the Barcelona city centre. The bus service is run by an independent company (Sagales) and has no direct business association with Ryan Air. However Barcelona Bus arranges its times of departure and arrival to co-incide with the arrival and departure of RyanAir flights. Ryan Air also gives details of this bus service on its website.

When relying on the Barcelona Bus to transfer you to Girona Airport on time for a flight, it's worth remembering that the Barcelona Bus and Ryan Air are separate companies.

The bus stops right outside the airport and will take you to Estacio d' Autobusos Barcelona Nord (Barcelona's main bus terminal) in Barcelona city centre. From there you can catch the metro underground system. The nearest Metro stop to the bus station is Metro Arc de Triomf (Red Line, L1). The metro stop is only 5-10 minutes walk from the bus station. From the Arc de Triomf station you can go directly toMetro Catalunya Station (Red Line, L1), where you can catch the Ferrocarrils de Catalunya (train) to take you to Sant Cugat.

Barcelona Bus Ticket price

Tickets cannot be booked in advance and they cost 12 Euros for a single ticket and 21 Euros for a return ticket. You can also call the Barcelona Bus information line - they have an operator that speaks English:

Once in Barcelona – take the train to Sant Cugat as detailed above.

Note: Girona Airport to Barcelona Centre by Taxi is an expensive option and will cost you around 120 Euros for a one way trip.
