University information

The Hague
University is an institution of
higher education in The Hague.
It is one of the approximately 70 Hogescholen,
which offer higher professional education (HBO) in the Netherlands.
The Hague University was founded in 1987, when
14 smaller institutions merged into one for reasons of efficiency and
management. Some of these institutions date from the 19th century. It
currently has some 16,000 students, a professional teaching staff of about
900 and support staff of 450.
Since August 1996 all the faculties of The Hague University
have been housed in one remarkable building complex. The location of the
building is directly adjacent to one of the city’s main railway stations and
within walking distance of the centre. The Netherlands’s
major international airport Schiphol is 30 minutes
by car or train from The Hague.
The university is built at the water’s edge, forming the centre of a complex
of shops, office buildings and cafes. The entire University occupies more
than 80,000 square meters. There is a large library (on the first floor), a
big sports hall (in the basement), a large auditorium and a central
restaurant.
