University Information

The Military Academy is a public military higher education institution committed to teaching, development and research and community support activities. The Military Academy’s major objective is training officers for the permanent staff of the different branches and services of the Army and National Republican Guard. The courses are given in a military environment, aimed at transmitting all traits of behaviour based on military component, moral and civic education, and the awareness that Cadets are simultaneously students and soldiers.

Local Information

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and lies on the north bank of the Tagus Estuary, on the European Atlantic coast. It is the westernmost city in continental Europe. Greater Lisbon has an area of approximately 1,000 km2. The city lies more or less in the centre of the country, approximately 300 km from the Algarve in the south and 400 km from the northern border with Spain.

Lisbon offers a wide variety of options to visitors, including beaches, countryside, mountains and areas of historical interest only a few kilometres away from the city centre.

Conference Accommodation

We are now working with a specialist agency to offer a range of hotels for all ACPIL conferences, with prices lower than many online booking engines. You will find a number of hotels at various prices, but the designated Conference Hotel for ECDG is the SANA MALHOA HOTEL, LISBOA.  This is usually where pre-conference drinks are held and where any transportation required for the conference dinner will run from.

Post Conference Tour

If you are either arriving the weekend before the conference or staying in Lisbon on the Wednesday after the conference you may be interested in a tour of Lisbon. As a post conference activity we are offering you the option of booking a tour the day after the conference. The tours are co-ordinated by Citur and all bookings must go directly through them. See below the two options of the tours:

Half Day Tour: Sintra & Cascais (by bus)

-This tour includes a short trip to the two beautiful towns of Sintra and Cascais, including full assistance of an English speaking guide. On arrival in the two towns you will free time to enjoy and explore the historical towns and wander round the narrow alleyways.  The scenic views during the bus journey give amazing opportunities for photos.

Rate per person: €65,00

*Please note the minimum amount of people for the trip must be 15

Half Day Lisbon Tour:

-This tour includes an English speaking guide and consists of a general tour of Lisbon by bus and tram. The first visit of the trip will be the quarter of Belém to visit the Jerónimos Monastery. Continuing by bus you will arrive at the Estrela Cathedral where a tram will take you via the most typical quarters of Lisbon such as Estrela. At the end of the tour you can enjoy the best views over the city with wine and cheese being served at the So Pedro Belvadere while enjoying beautiful views over the city.

Getting to ECDG 2017

Lisbon is a short flight away from most European cities, and is easily accessible by road, railway or sea.

The local airport is Lisbon International Airport, which is located 7 km from the city centre and 15kms to the Military Academy. There are daily flights to and from the major cities in Europe and the world.  All major international airlines as well as TAP- Air Portugal fly to and from Lisbon. There is an also underground connection to the city centre from the Airport.

National and International trains arrive in Lisbon every day. In addition to Santa Apolónia terminal station, the city now has the new Gare do Oriente adjacent to the Parque das Nações. Both stations have direct bus or underground connections to the city centre.

The Port of Lisbon is the busiest port on the European Atlantic coast. It has three terminals for cruise ships: the Alcântara, Rocha de Conde d’Óbidos and the Santa Apolónia terminals. Lisbon is often a port of call for many cruise ships (coming from many different places). Furthermore, the city also has marinas for pleasure boats in the docks of Belém, Santo Amaro, Bom Sucesso. Alcântara and, most recently, the Olivais Docks.
